featured song for now: "Westgate" by Buddy
download "westgate" by buddy here
the soft light doesn't hardly make you easier to watch
you face your fears with a poker face --
i should be holding your hands for this.
i guess you know that we don't know what we're doing this for,
help me kill my time some more.
over the edge eventually: if i don't fall, push me.
i hate the things you love me for.
i could have sworn you promised more.
i can't tell the difference between us anymore.
i don't think i want what's right --
sober me up so i can let you down.
i guess you know we don't know what we're doing this for,
help me kill my time some more.
over the edge eventually: if i don't fall, push me.
i hate the things you love me for.
i could have sworn you promised more.
i guess you know we don't know what we're doing this for,
help me kill my time some more.
over the arc eventually:
you said you only need someone to help you help yourself,
but i don't know how.

In celebration of Leopard...
Here's
to the
crazy ones, the misfits,
the rebels, the troublemakers. The round
pegs in the square holes. The ones who see
things differently. They're not fond of rules,
and they have no respect for the status
quo. You can quote them. Disagree with
them. Glorify or vilify them. About
the only thing you can't do is ignore
them. Because they change things. They
push the human race forward. And while some
may see them as the crazy ones, we see g-
enius. Because the people who are crazy
enough to think they can change the
world are the ones who do.

Letter of the Day: L
Leopard is coming out tomorrow! I haven't pre-ordered, but that's mainly because I won't be joining queues until probably 8pm or so. Why?
Coz my Lens has been serviced and is now ready for collection! k, probably I didn't tell you guys, but I did go to the Keppel Bay Towers Where Canon's service centre was, for servicing of my lens. Well, it was more of a cleaning issue, so I guess it's a small issue... but anyway, that is now settled, and fast, too! Sent in on monday, they said 5 days, got a reply in 3 days! nice job, canon! Fantastic! and far cheaper as well! $86.50, compared to the expected $100... really happy with their service staff!

another "da ron files" presentation: get out! (a remix of timbaland's "kill yourself")
"Get Out!". It's a little remix project I did just for fun. Did it within an hour. getting it online took another 5 hours, but that's a whole other conversation. I was just bored, and I wanted to show that there's music in music, if you know what I mean. Just stripping and taking apart a song can get you another form of music.
This song was made using just the beginning and ending of Timbaland's "Kill Yourself". Since the words "Get Out!" can be heard very frequently in this repetitive song [it's 3 minutes, though it was made using just 25s of the beginning + 42s of the ending. of the original song]. Dig into the depth of the stripped and remixed version of the song. Hope you enjoy it!
p.s.: this was done with GarageBand 4.1 AKA GarageBand '08, a part of iLife '08, which comes with every new Mac.

just a few things.
1. ok. i won't talk about results, code monkey, and the likewise on my blog. There.
2. I'm going for Canon PhotoMarathon Competition tomorrow... hope I get some good shots along the way!
3. Gonna make this as short as possible.
I was going to Bishan after fooling around Raffles City with a couple of my classmates [Jasper Yee, Isaac Wong, Jing Kai]. On the train, we were having a discussion on.... err.... many topics [the topics kept swaying around...]. On one of those topic, Jing Kai was like stopping Jasper coz he was gonna talk about Choon Zhe. he said something like we're enemies or something. I just want to make this clear once and for all. I don't want to be enemy with Choon Zhe. Never had that mindset. Maybe we were fed up with each other once. That was last year. Let's put that behind all of us and move on. Bury the hatchet, as it's often said. I don't think making enemies with one another is a constructive thing to do. It brings no benefit to both sides. Only harm. 弊多于利.
So for those who are reading this [I assume that's just Raymond, Esmond, Jasper Yee, and myself], I'm more interested in mutual benefits than being in a rhubarb with someone I [fortunately or unfortunately] have to work with for an extended period of time. Makes little sense to be at loggerheads forever, don't you think?
4. I'm gonna end off with this statement directed @headshot.

how high...
"Was it all worth it
And how did I earn it
Nobody's perfect
I guess I deserve it"
"How high are the stakes
How much fortune can you make
Does this get any better
Should I carry on
Will it matter when I'm gone
Will any of this matter"

Oh Steve, Why did you go through all this...
I was laughing silently when I read this...
"Third Party Applications on the iPhone
Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers.
It will take until February to release an SDK because we’re trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once—provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc. This is no easy task. Some claim that viruses and malware are not a problem on mobile phones—this is simply not true. There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network. As our phones become more powerful, these malicious programs will become more dangerous. And since the iPhone is the most advanced phone ever, it will be a highly visible target.
Some companies are already taking action. Nokia, for example, is not allowing any applications to be loaded onto some of their newest phones unless they have a digital signature that can be traced back to a known developer. While this makes such a phone less than “totally open,” we believe it is a step in the right direction. We are working on an advanced system which will offer developers broad access to natively program the iPhone’s amazing software platform while at the same time protecting users from malicious programs.
We think a few months of patience now will be rewarded by many years of great third party applications running on safe and reliable iPhones.
Steve
P.S.: The SDK will also allow developers to create applications for iPod touch."

"iTunes Plus now offers over two million DRM-free tracks at just 99 cents
Offering customers the largest catalog of DRM-free music in the world, Apple today expanded iTunes Plus to more than two million tracks while at the same time lowering the price of those tracks to just 99 cents. In addition to artists from EMI’s digital catalog, iTunes Plus now includes artists from Sub Pop, Nettwerk, Beggars Group, IODA, The Orchard and many others. All iTunes Plus tracks feature DRM-free music with high-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding, offering audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings."

A Price drop, you say?
Before: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger - S$252 w/GST
Now: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard - S$238 w/GST
Thanks, Apple, for making OS X Leopard more affordable for Singaporeans. [and being blind of the fact that the currency rate fluctuates, and it's to Singapore's advantage at the moment... w00t!]

i was walking around Funan yesterday in search of a new router to replace our current WRT54G [RIP,old router...], when I discovered there was a hell lot of shops selling iPhones around the 4th or 5th floor of the mall... If you're curious, the price is around $1,150 [I overheard somebody asking the price]. It's unlocked, firmware version 1.0.2 [i assume], and yes, it's an 8GB iPhone the cost of a Nokia E90 N95 8GB without plan.
Go get 'em iPhones!

a memo to Steve
Dear Mr. Steve jobs,
I am a Mac fan, I love my MacBook Pro, and I love the Apple brand. Can you please relief me of my insanity by releasing Leopard as quickly as possible? I am so desperate that I actually updated Safari to Safari 3.0.3beta, downloaded VirtueDesktop to feel Spaces, and I even went to get the OS X Leopard Desktop Wallpaper you used in the demos, specifically the one at WWDC07. So please, get Leopard out there!

HP Blackbird 002 is probably the best, most high-end gaming system in the market right now. If I were to switch back to PC, this would be my choice computer. It's easily expandable, It's got liquid cooling, It's got 3 PCI-x16 slot compatible with ATi Crossfire AS WELL AS NVidia SLi, It's got VooDoo custom BIOS to make overclocking much simpler, 5 S-ATA slots RAID-configurable.
results from PCMag's test:
"The Blackbird is a gaming system, and in this arena it excels. The system's scores, such as its 115 frames per second on Prey and 92 fps on Company of Heroes at 2,560-by-1,600 resolution, show that it won't stutter when you're playing, even if you're using a huge 30-inch LCD panel. In fact, these are among the fastest scores I've seen so far. (Remember, 60 fps is "enough" for a smooth gaming experience on Prey, and 30 fps is considered "good" for Company of Heroes.)"
Just a warning: It's not available in Singapore (yet), it's S$7,897.61 or $5400, and it's heavy. Did I mention it's HUGE?

Harry Potter puppets!
Just watch... The videos are wacky, I tell you...
Moskau - For the ones who never understand Russian Communism...
Bohemian Rhapsody - A familiar song, I'm sure... But this interpretation is cute, isn't it?
Mysterious Ticking Noise - Catchy.
Bananaphone - This song may feel familiar if you watch the "bad" singers audition during the American Idol Competition.

Reading on DRM...
I read a post on Mr Stanley Ho's blog... It's the one on SonyBMG Chief Anti-Pirate Lawyer's view on DRM and music...
I posted a comment on that post, but I felt I had to do a continuation... and I foresaw some undesireable content [and length] that Mr Ho probably wouldn't like on his blog... and besides, I'm sure he wants more hits diverted from other blogs!
DRM is very anti-consumer. As much as I hate DRM, I hate SonyBMG's take on DRM.
Have they not regretted the RootKit issue? Hate to bring this up, but apparently, Sony installed a Copy-protection scheme on their CDs using rootkits, which could then download and install spyware and all forms of indesireable content. A Class-action lawsuit was filed, and now, they are sueing back at their contractors. They have a case. But my point for bringing this up is: Does Sony have any remorse after the RootKit incident? It appears not, as Sony continues to add DRM and copy-prevention schemes to everything. You saw Blu-Ray. They not only installed a copy-prevention layer on the $50 12mm round-piece-of-plastic, but they also have something called the HDCP: High-bandwidth Digital Copy Protection, which supposedly lowers down the resolution of the video playback, if not just stop the playback, if the screen which you watch on does not support this Copy Protection. HD-DVD has also went on to do this. Just take note: when you get blu-ray, there is a high chance that your computer will not be able to play back the content, because the Graphics card on your computer is probably not HDCP-supported yet.
I'm bringing up the other things that Sony has done to let you know: Sony is trying to be an anti-consumer monopoly, and we must not let this happen. How would you like if Sony controls every single media content and platform? They'll control the pricing of the sale of their music, They'll just keep increasing the prices of their CDs, install more malware, brick your iPods [Your iPod was meant to play music. If CDs are DRM-ed, what are you going to play on your iPod? iTunes may not come to Singapore.]
DRM is Sony's baby. They spent huge amounts of money into the scheme, so they do not want to see this money as being washed down the drain in one decision. Isn't that why they still hung on to the Sony Walkman branding? The Walkman was a popular music player which ran on tapes, and now, The Walkman is a flash-based digital music player. You can tell Sony does not want to miss any opportunity. Sony is willing to do whatever it takes just to break even.
Now you notice I didn't mention a bit about the artistes. There's a reason behind this. It is quite common to hear that artistes don't get much money from selling albums. That is because the money goes mainly to the recording label, and then divided into several portions. I do not know the exact proportions, but I know part of it goes back to the company for the promotion that was done on the album, and for the label to develop newer artistes and other albums. The remainder goes to the peopl INVOLVED in the making of the album: from the artiste, to the album cover design, the CD-pressing place [Hey, someone has to make the CDs], the studio, all sorts of people. The best way for these artistes to earn exorbitant amounts of money is, you guessed it, concerts. They sell tickets at $109, they sell T-shirts at $60. Imagine how much they can earn!
You may be thinking: Why do these artistes even sign contracts with the labels? Well, Firstly, if you were to go independent, where would you go, and how far? Next, these labels have the resources to turn you from a nobody to the "Oh-My-God-It's-that-hot-new-song" guy in a week. Seen Lily Allen? Seen Britney Spears in her early days? Seen Hilary Duff? William Hung? These people flourish thanks to the marketing machine that is the Recording Company!
But remember: They control these artiste. They decide to put labels. They are the ones who say "CDs suck". Not the Artiste. But the Sony-BMGs of the world. And the more they try to control the consumers, the more the consumers will fight back. We've often hear artistes saying "Don't steal music. Buy CDs" on radios. Listen to them. Remember, Sony BMG's job is just to feed these artistes, provide the equipment to record, find talents, as well as to MARKET THE ARTISTEs. Enough, Sony BMG, We're not playing a cat&mouse game with you. Put down your DRM toy and just make good music. That's the only way you'll earn money.
Sony-BMG has this anti-consumer policy. They use their artiste as an excuse for DRM, when in actual fact, it's only because they are so scared their music sucked, and hence they cannot allow piracy. Hence, they must do whatever it takes to prevent copy protection. That's bullcrap. They just want people to be locked in to this DRM scheme. People often joke that Sony's aim is to charge everyone not just for playing the music, but even thinking of it, because the artistes created the music and hence they are "entitled" to the money. Well guess what. I'm not going to pay just because i am thinking of a chord on a guitar.
Sony, I used to love you, but now, you suck.
I posted a comment on that post, but I felt I had to do a continuation... and I foresaw some undesireable content [and length] that Mr Ho probably wouldn't like on his blog... and besides, I'm sure he wants more hits diverted from other blogs!

The new Friendster / MySpace?
Web2.0 has got me rushing from site to site... And I know I'm not alone...
The Web2.0 bubble all began with Friendster... Everyone was going there.... Then nothing.
Nothing until sites like YouTube, MySpace, Twitter, Jaiku, Blogger, WordPress, and more mushroomed...
And now, I present to you the next milestone in Web2.0 that is so addictive, it can be a distraction and interruption on your productivity. But it's where everyone is...

I once said this... in a post from April 2007, entitled "Waiting For Leopard..."
"Apple only announce things on Tuesdays or Wednesdays...
Final say: I say 31 Oct 2007 on Leopard Release!"
I have NOT changed my predictions...
Just expect an announcement on 16 October...

Safari 3.0.3...
I switched to the Safari 3 BETA...
Ya, I know i mentioned to someone that I refuse to use BETA products unless they're really cool...
but I was really curious...
And i didn't regret...
It's not different, but it's definitely got some new features which SHOULD HAVE existed in Safari 2...
basic stuff like moving tabs around... i don't believe Safari 2 didn't have that....

But anyway, Thanks for reading, and keep watching this space!
artards...
artard: A retard compared to other retards; qualities of extreme stupidity.
---Warning: This post is quite vulgar. Viewer discretion is advised.---
I've been checking out 3ST's class blog...
I saw certain posts on their tagboard that wasn't very nice...
I just want to say this to whoever that was.
Please don't be a f*cking artard.
It's not very nice of you to attack me verbally without confessing who the heck you really are.
It's even more cowardly.
The most cowardly bit is that you actually claim i'm cowardly and then you go under the radar. What in f***ing blog-o-sphere warfare is this? If you have balls and an a**, walk up to my face, slap my face, and tell me "I did it"!.
Come on, chicken!
[ok, this is soo..... low of me...]
and by the way, I DID NOT break any of the Code of conducts. I am saying what I WOULD say to the spammer. And yes, I did warn people this post may be vulgar, but I did use discretion. HA!
