I was looking through the photos stored on my Live Spaces, and to my pleasant surprise, I found some really nice, old photos which I have lost with the 2x my Seagate drive crashed... I'll post some of them over here over time. For now, here's some photos from 2006...

from 70 to 106...

Comparing last year's Jan-Apr period with this year's, I've made this blog reach a peak in the number of posts for the initial 4 months of any year [not difficult to beat, I must say, considering my windows live blog died, with not many posts anyways...]

down with 144 posts to go for that targeted 250...

Warning: glass cuts...

I accidentally caused a glass to fall from a slide-out table/tray...

I got a glass stuck to my left leg...

I used my right leg to rub off the piece...

the glass cut my right leg's vein.

No question, Mr. Giuliani has supporters in Chinatown, businessmen like Ronald Liong, a pharmacist on Mott Street. ''I prefer the ban,'' Mr. Liong said. ''I think fireworks are hazardous. But actually, one way or another, it doesn't matter to me.''

new skin...

Now more versatile to fit almost any width on either the sidebar or the main section.

TAG to let me know of your opinion.

Typed without looking at the keyboard at all...

New Seeqpod playlist...

Just for the exams, I arranged the songs in order of increasing "pressurizing elements" [e.g.: loudness, fast tempos, genre, etc.]. At the same time, I also tried to squeeze every song that was already in the list in between every two new songs I add to the list, so you get a mix of old and new [or if you don't care, you can choose to shuffle the tracks.]

Here;s the lineup;

  • Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Record On
  • Norah Jones - Sunrise
  • Jack Johnson - If I Had Eyes
  • Jason Mraz - I'm Yours
  • Muse - Soldier's Poem
  • John Mayer - Say
  • Feist - I Feel It All
  • Colbie Caillat - Realize
  • Kylie Minogue - In My Arms [the version I added in is a remix.]
  • Yael Naim - New Soul
  • Radiohead - 15 Step(s)
  • Sara Bareilles - Love Song
  • Muse - Knights of Cydonia
Enjoy!

Call me wacky, but it really works...

[it's gonna be geeky. Viewer Discretion is advised.]

I feel like Frankenstein tonight... Don't know how much electricity (both static and current) I exposed myself to...

I tried to set up an 'aluminum foil' parabola for my router because we had to move it to a less-than ideal location, since I had to swap the Ethernet cable joining the Router to the modem, and the signal lost after the move was drastic.

In the process, I exposed myself to excessive amounts of 2.4GHz radio signals, and I actually transmitted it using my body for a short while as I accidentally touched the foil, which was in contact with the wires joining the antenna to the router. Felt almost like touching a live coaxial cable that is connected to your splitter. For the non-geeks: try touching the cable connecting the Starhub connection point to either your TV or your Set-top box. Is it nice or is it nice?

Warning : daronfiles is not responsible for any deaths, injuries, or mishaps as a result of touching static or current electricity. Sorry.

late night mugging...

it sure feels like primary 6 again. Back then, I also got little sleep.

I just came to realize how chocolates can be a saving grace for late-night study sessions like the one I has now. Helps with the mucle cramps from writing 80wpm (hand-writing, mind you).

Ok. Back to S.S.

Blogged on an iPod touch.

My fav. NPR podcast

Politics as a joke - that's my cup of tea.

OR

It's actually a mix of a satire + game show packed in a weekly 45minutes show.

It's hilarious if you're following the news.

But hey, it's educational! [seriously, but with jokes]

Juno not in SG yet?

For some strange reasoning, I was unable to find a single CD store around town that has Juno in stock on DVD. From Sembawang Music, to HMV, and even That CD Shop. Haven't tried Borders, since it's a bit far from City Hall MRT where I did my search before going to church.

Well, never mind the fact that I didn't get to find Juno. I got Muse's album! I was pleasantly surprised to see Haarp on the top 10 charts at HMV [after all, it's a 'Live in Wembley' recording. Who buys live concert recordings?]

Anyway, I've been thinking, since I may not even blog throughout Early November, Late October-ish, plus Early December if I'm going for the Choir Bratislavia trip, I might as well lower my target for the year. I'll just reduce it to 250. It's in between '06 and '07 in terms of numbers of posts. And fret not, i'm aiming for 250 quality posts. Not crap. Just random posts that gets you either reading, discussing, debating [i.e. infuriating], or laughing, if not smiling.

I may go on hiatus only closer to those critical periods of 'O' Levels. So rest assured. For now, the posts will keep ringing in like rain over the plains of Spain...

Ok, you didn't get that, I assume.

3 Words: My, Fair, Lady.

300 Posts?! What was I thinking?!

Just came to my sense, right about 1 hour ago.

HOW ON EARTH WILL I GET 300 POSTS IN A YEAR, especially with my 'O's coming?!

Whoops!

'Soldier's Poem' by Muse

A very gentle, short melody that may lull you to sleep, Soldier's Poem is a great song that I enjoy from Muse!

Finally, adults that understand games...

Dr Lawrence Kutner and Dr Cheryl Olson, writers of the book "Grand Theft Childhood", being interviewed on X-Play.

bottom line: Video Games do not cause people who play games to become violent.

So, lawyers, parents, and counsellors, do not blame VIOLENT video GAMES for ill-behaved, rebellious kids. [unless they refuse to do chores for you by breaking their vacuum cleaner before continuing with their games, then you may sell that X-Box 360 on ebay]

I see the relation now...

New hypotheses.

1. With an increase in atmospheric temperatures, a person's ability to utilise his/her memory drops gradually.

2. The increase in exposure to the consumer market will increase the chances of a certain thing being hacked.

3. The increased frequency of weather fluctuations will result in an increase of people falling ill.

See if you can come up with the relevant formulas for the above statements.

Controversies...

"This list* raises questions. Is a car made gay at a factory, or does it become gay after it is driven. And should two gay cars be permitted to share a garage?"

Thanks, Time Machine!

Heh, the screenshot came out wrong... there's supposed to be a fret-board...
Oh yah, there shouldn't be. I finished Guitar Hero 3!
[yes, it's on Easy, because I'm Asian, I have a life, and I have poor hand-finger coordination, in addition to the fact that I have sweaty palms.]
But anyway, I cleared Dragonforce!

My new mail infrastructure...

Just to warn people, I now have to active email addresses, but you can still send me mail at my hotmail address...

You see, I'm getting fed up with hotmail.

Safari / WebKit refuse to render MSN's login page correctly, so I always have to bring up Firefox to load my emails, which is a pain in the gluteus maximus. <--Bio word. go figure.

Anyway, to solve the problem of never having to see hotmail, I have diverted all my mail to my Gmail account, and hereon-forth, I'm using Mail.app in Leopard to sync my mail using IMAP. So, life's good for me.

How about you?

Well, I'm still using my hotmail account as a mail-bait, as well as my MSN Messenger account. [I'll still be online.] My mail will not pop up in my hotmail account, but instead in my gmail.

When I send out emails, [i haven't tried this, but] hopefully, it'll appear to be sent from my hotmail. I set up a reply-to in Gmail, so see how it goes.

Hotmail is abhorrent.

All abstruse words courtesy of Dictionary.app, which is more advanced in Leopard.

Moving around stuff...

I just moved the links and profile away from the messy and narrow sidebar,

[the forenamed sections are obese, you see]

all the way South.

Yes, my friends, I have made it much more difficult easier to see the posts on my blog!

Speaking of which, this is post #80 for he year! only 220 more to go!

So, please, enjoy scrolling all the way down my blog just to get to the links!

or, you could read my blog posts! :)

p.s.: i rarely use emoticons.

My guitar life has brought me to Japan as Muse...

Featured song of the moment...

I'm stuck at Stage 8 - Battle For Your Soul...

So, for now, here's my favourite song from the previous stage, Stage 7 - Live in Japan.

It's Muse, with "Knights of Cydonia"

soybean and phytoestrogen?

"plagiarized" from wikipedia.

Phytoestrogen

Main article: Phytoestrogens

Soybeans contain isoflavones called genistein and daidzein, which are one source of phytoestrogens in the human diet. Because most naturally occurring estrogenic substances show weak activity, normal consumption of foods that contain these phytoestrogens should not provide sufficient amounts to elicit a physiological response in humans.[citation needed] However, animal studies have shown significant physiological responses, and many people's consumption of soy products (especially vegetarians and infants on soy formula) could far exceed what most studies would consider "normal" consumption.

Plant lignans associated with high fiber foods such as cereal brans and beans are the principal precursor to mammalian lignans which have an ability to bind to human estrogen sites. Soybeans are a significant source of mammalian lignan precursor secoisolariciresinol containing 13–273 µg/100 g dry weight.[39] Another phytoestrogen in the human diet with estrogen activity is coumestans, which are found in beans, split-peas, with the best sources being alfalfa, clover, and soybean sprouts. Coumestrol, an isoflavone coumarin derivative is the only coumestan in foods.[40][41]

Soybeans and processed soy foods do not contain the highest "total phytoestrogen" content of foods. A study in which data were presented on an as is (wet) basis per 100 g and per serving found that food groups with decreasing levels of total phytoestrogens per 100 g are nuts and oilseeds, soy products, cereals and breads, legumes, meat products, various processed foods that may contain soy, vegetables, and fruits.[42]

[edit]Men

Because of the phytoestrogen content, some studies indicate that there is an inverse correlation between soybean ingestion and testosteronein men.[43] For this reason, they may protect against the development of prostate cancer.[44] A theoretical decrease in the risk of prostate cancer should, however, be weighed against the side-effects of decreased testosterone, including diminished libido.

opening up my options...

It's 8 months to the end of the year. By then, I should have come to a decision as to where my next step in life will be...

The list of options goes as such:
In Singapore...
1. Stick to the SA tradition: SAJC
2. Follow in Ian's brother and Mervyn Wee's footsteps: NJC
3. Follow a trend populer amongst former 4SA students: VJC

In USA...
4. MIT! [i wish...]

In UK...
5. LBC - London Business College

This list may add on, it may reduce... We'll see over time. Right now, let me sleep and focus on the Cambridge-Singapore GCE 'O' Level Certificate first...

Disturbing...

funny things going on...

weird things that shouldn't be happening...

I'm getting freaked out...

But Nathan Petrelli once said: Don't go public.

I'll have to bottle it up...

But what if...

No.

Madonna!

It all started with "Frozen", before I was in Primary school. for some reason, the radio kept playing this track, and I became interested in the song. It's odd to explain, but I loved this track a lot...

This sums up all 25 years of Madonna in a video. It's a megamix of various tracks she has made over the years...

enjoy!

April Fools' stuff...

GOOGLE HOAXES 2008

Google has a tradition of perpetrating April Fool's Day hoaxes, which generally have an intellectual sense of humor.

From Wiki:

In Gmail, Google featured information for an update called "Gmail Custom Time"; a feature that would allow its users to send emails back in time. While composing a message, a button labeled "Set Custom Time" would allow one to send the message a specific interval in the past, as well as choose if the message appeared as "read" or "unread". None of the features appear in the service itself, but rather in a description of the update found here: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/customtime/index.html.

Virgle

Virgle Logo

Google announces a joint project with the Virgin Group that aims to establish a permanent human settlement onMars (http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html). This operation has been named Project Virgle. it also includes videos of Richard Branson as well as Larry Page & Sergey Brin (The Founders of Google) on YouTube, talking about Virgle.[1]

Dajare

Google launches Dajare in Japan (google.co.jp), with the mission of "organizing the world’s laughter." [2]

gDay

Google announces gDay in Australia (http://www.google.com.au/intl/en/gday/press.html), a new beta search technology that will search web pages 24 hours before they are created.

Google Dialect Translation

Google announces Google 사투리 번역 (Google dialect translation) for translating regional dialects of Korean to and from Standard Korean.[3]

Gmail Custom Time

Around 11:00 p.m. EST March 31, 2008, on the newer and older version of Gmail, but not in the basic HTML version, in the upper right corner, next to Settings, a link appeared labeled, "New! Gmail Custom Time". The link led to a 404 error before April 1st CST.[4] [5] - It now leads to their latest hoax, Gmail Custom Time --> [2]. The page claimed a new Gmail feature had been added that would allow people to date stamp their emails in the past, allowing for all sorts of mischief. Users would be limited to 10 Custom Times a year to minimize the number of fraudulent emails. Clicking any of the three links at the bottom of the page brought the user to a page indicating that Gmail Custom time was, in fact, their April Fools prank for 2008.[6]

YouTube Rickroll

YouTube users were Rickrolled when all of the featured videos on the main page were linked to a video of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up".[7]

Google Calendar is Feeling Lucky

Google added the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button to its calendar feature. When you tried to create a new event, you were given the regular option of entering the correct details and hitting "Create Event," and also the new option of "I'm Feeling Lucky" which would set you up with an evening date with, among others, Matt Damon, Eric Cartman, or Angelina Jolie.

Google Wake Up Kit

Google launched their "Wake Up Kit" as a calendar notification option. The option sends a series of increasingly aggressive alerts, starting with an SMS message to your cellphone, and ending with a bucket of water dumped into your bed, which would then flip over, tossing you out (all using apparently free equipment).

Google Docs

A little easter egg was added, where a user can click the file menu and directly under new document is "New Airplane" which immediately opens a copy of a Google branded paper airplane.

Band Concert!

Went for Band concert yesterday.

Pretty nice tunes, really enjoyed it.

And as I told Zexun, loved Ben Thia's drum moves. ["Concerto For Drumset And Concert Band"]

Oh, Saxophone section's own performance ["Water Music"] was pretty cool, too. Never thought you could make music out of jsut the various range of saxophones...

Congrats on the great concert!

You are rick-rolled!

Rick Roll
Verb
When what you think is a link to something you want to see actually directs you to a video of Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up."
